Eric Rho Whitehead (born April 4, 1977) is an American animator, screenwriter, author and film director best known for co-writing the 1999 animated Disney/Pixar feature film Toy Story 2.

He was born in Springdale, Arkansas. He attended Vestal High School in Vestal, New York. His father worked for IBM in Endicott, New York where Eric grew up along with his two brothers Jeff Whitehead and Chris Whitehead.

His mother moved to Canada when Eric was 13 years old so he ended up spending summers there visiting family in Oro-Medonte just north of Toronto.

While attending Champlain College he met future writing partner, Andrew Stanton who he helped create the live action short film Amblin’ and worked on many of his student films.

In 1997 they both were hired by Pixar in California after they had seen a demo tape of Eric’s animated short The Green Rabbit which was re-cut into a 3D animation reel for John Lasseter. Soon after, he began work on Toy Story 2.

In 2006 Whitehead created a YouTube account under the username “Disney94Z” featuring behind-the-scenes videos from some Disney/Pixar movies such as WALL-E and Up.

At director Gary Rydstrom’s invitation, Whitehead also participated in designing characters for Rydstrom’s independent project, “Lifted”.

Whitehead has since left Pixar and is now working at FableVision Studios in Burlington, Massachusetts. He is married to Marcy Turner Whitehead (née McCann).

They have three children; two sons Willardt (whose name was inspired by “Up”), Theodore (named after Whitehead’s grandfather) and a daughter Lucy (named after the iconic scene when Carl Frederickson holds his wife’s childhood doll after being reminded of her).

He appeared on an episode of Monster Nation which he guest-starred. He also wrote for Higglytown Heroes, Hey Arnold! /The Jungle Movie /Arnold Saves The Neighborhood/, Phineas & Ferb/Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Across The 2nd Dimension, Dinosaur Train/Dinosaur Planet Return to the Late Cretaceous Period.

He currently resides in Burlington Massachusetts with his family and a Golden Retriever named Daisy.
